Matthew Scott-Perry

Director/Writer/Producer

Matthew has been working in the entertainment industry his entire adult life. When he was a teenager he was a member of the world-famous Children’s Film Unit, acting as their head of editing and co-writer of the feature film Emily’s Ghost (conceiving the film’s twist ending). He worked with the world-famous film restorer Kevin Brownlow on the television series CINEMA EUROPE: THE OTHER HOLLYWOOD when he was 16. At 18 he became the youngest regular contributor to The Times newspaper, writing a weekly column about films, and interviewing Angelina Jolie, Alicia Silverstone and Nicole Kidman among others. His first experiences on a film set were when he was invited by Richard Attenborough to work on IN LOVE AND WAR in 1996, a romantic drama starring Sandra Bullock and Chris O’Donnell.

He read Film and Literature at the University of Warwick, and got a First in Screenwriting. After graduating, he began working in television and commercials, including spending about six months with Peter Richardson at The Comic Strip/Jack Strong Ltd. Since 2001 he has additionally worked in theatre in the West End and on Broadway on projects starring such performers as Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes and Vanessa Redgrave.

In October 2003 he formed Surface Films with Kai Maurer, and they produced the feature film SPLINTER, starring Joe McGann, Eva Pope, Issy van Randwyck and Paul Barber. It was screened at film festivals in Leeds and Ashdod in Israel, and can now be downloaded from various websites through Wysiwyg Films.

He has continued to write screenplays and developing projects via Surface Films, and in 2009 was commissioned to create and write the television series AGRIGENTUM by Electric Avenue Radio in New York.

He has contributed to The Sunday Times and The Independent newspapers on film subjects, is the co-author of two books published in French in Canada, and has been interviewed by The Wall Street Journal, BBC Radio Scotland and BAFTA’s in-house magazine Academy.
